Safe Inc. of Schenectady has the following job openings:

Shelter Staff/Per Diem

Organization Commitment:

All staff members of Safe Inc. are expected to demonstrate a commitment to Safe’s mission, philosophy and the vision of the organization.

Distinguishing Features: Ensure that program policies are implemented on each shift.  Responsible for resident care and program operations during each shift.  Willing to work with teenagers and be sensitive to the needs of youth in crisis.  Must be responsible and dependable.

 

Requirements For The Job:

Must have dependable transportation to work.  A current physical and an update to be submitted annually. Criminal background check, drug screen and NYS Office of Children and Family Services background check will be conducted.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepare and supervise all meals.

  • Leave kitchen equipment clean, including appliances.

  • Supervise clients when using laundry facilities and other appliances

  • Supervision of clients to include enforcement of house rules.

  • Familiarity and adherence to shelter policies and procedures.

  • Complete intakes as needed.

  • Provide crisis intervention to clients as needed.

  • Maintain accurate, grammatically correct notes in log book.

  • Answer phone and door.

  • Adhere to confidentiality agreement/HIPPA compliant.

  • Complete any additional duties delegated by the shelter manager.

  • Maintain grounds and cleanliness of shelter.

  • Attend trainings, supervision, staff meetings and seminars.

  • Overnight coverage is required to remain awake for duration of the 8-hour shift and be equipped to handle any emergencies that occur during the night.

  • Evening shift must lock all doors and windows.

  • Night shift must turn on the alarm.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED with 1-year experience working with at risk youth.

  • Preferred: Associates Degree
