Project Safe comprises three programs: the Street Outreach Program (SOP), the life skills program, and the anti-trafficking program. These non-residential programs provide much-needed services to persons who have been, or are at risk of being, homeless and/or trafficked. Overview of Project Safe in Schenectady
Street Outreach Program (SOP)
The goal of the SOP is to collectively find, assist, and build relationships with runaway and homeless youth in Schenectady County, with a concentration in the City of Schenectady, who have been subjected to or at risk of being subjected to homelessness and/or human trafficking. This program is designed for youths under the age of 18 who have an immediate need.
We utilize a Positive Youth Development framework that includes engaging youth with lived expertise to assist in developing plans to strategies for locating youth, outreach, and youth focused education and awareness.
SOP staff help these youth to get off the streets. The outreach program looks to connect with and provide street-based services to runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth ages 12-21. SOP team members utilize a trauma-centered approach to respond appropriately to the individual needs of each person.
When our team is on the streets, they educate at-risk youth on situations that might place them at risk of sexual exploitation, human trafficking, or other harm. We also educate families and our community about the services Safe, Inc. provides.
Staff also provide and assist with counseling, job readiness, youth groups, transportation, toiletries, community activities, and housing. Additionally, SOP staff facilitate effective partnerships between agencies and community partners to aid with food, education, clothing, housing, and support services.
Anti-Trafficking
Safe Inc. has an anti-trafficking program that serves the following counties: Fulton, Montgomery, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington Counties.
Life Skills Program
Safe Inc.’s Life Skills Program is designed for young adults aged 18-35 who are currently homeless. The goal is to assist these young adults with the basic life skills needed to help them obtain and maintain safe, stable, affordable, permanent housing. This program is tailored to meet ALL the needs of each young adult through a network of services and referrals.
Our Life Skills Program provides advocacy to ensure that each young adult finds and remains in safe, stable, affordable, permanent housing. Our staff provide the supportive services necessary to ensure that each young adult can become self-sufficient by increasing their income and/or enroll and attend an educational/vocational school.
